This event is intended for those who have not practiced a self rescue in the last year. At our first event, several participants successfully learned the paddle-float self-rescue method. If you've never done it, this is a good time and place to learn.
After the self-rescue practice, we'll go for a short paddle along the coast of Mitchell's Bay in Lake St. Clair.
We will meet at the Mitchell's Bay beach parking lot at 9:00 AM. The main road into Mitchell's Bay is county road 42. This road ends at the lake, and the parking lot is to your right.
This event will have 3 parts:
1. Individual self-rescue practice at the beach
LOC Covid-19 guidelines require that all paddle event participants have a reliable self-rescue capability, and have practiced it recently. The beach offers a warm-water location (23C) to practice your rescue. While this is not a "class", I will demonstrate the paddle float technique, and coach those new to the method.
2. Group paddle for 1.5 hours
For those who successfully demonstrated a self-rescue, we will explore the bay and the shoreline for a paddle of about 1.5 hours.
3. Group “snack and chat”
There’s lots of shaded space at the park where we launched. Bring your camp chair, and we’ll make a circle with each chair at least 2 m apart. Have a post-paddle snack while we chat and get caught up... but no food sharing!
Check your email in the morning before you depart in case weather conditions have required a cancellation.
Within 24 hours of the event, conduct a self-assesment using the Ontario online tool found here:

If that tool recommends you be tested or that you self-isolate, please do not attend the event.
