Basic Map Reading

Navigation Skills Course

Maximum 12 participants, on a first come basis.

Come and learn how to read topographical maps.

Explore contour lines.

Unlock the mysteries of Latitude and Longitude.

Become familiar with the Universal Transverse Mercator (UTM) Grid Coordinate System.

Learn how to use map distance scales.

Measure linear/non-linear distances on a map.

Greatly improve your Navigational Skills.

Become confident in how to use a Compass.

True North vs. Magnetic North.

What is Declination?

How to take a Compass Bearing.

Have fun plotting the route for a wilderness canoe trip.
