Lambton Outdoor Club Bulletin
Spring 2025

Welcome back to Lambton Outdoor Club's (LOC) online bulletin, previously called 'e-news'.

It is our hope that this will become a helpful news location for all members, especially those would like information on areas of the club they haven't been involved with yet.

If you would like to submit a travel or outdoor story for our next bulletin, LOC or otherwise, please contact us at lambtonoutdoorclub@gmail.com

President's Message - Winston Ramharry, President

Hello LOC Members,

I am pleased to share the following updates on the club:

The LOC Council started the process of updating club documents.
The guidelines for hiking, cycling and paddling have been updated. The format of the document was changed to include tabs for the risks and rules, leader responsibilities and participants responsibilities. This new format will help participants and leaders to know what is expected of each other.

To check it out, go to the LOC website, then the tab for Activity group and select hiking, cycling or paddling. Other documents will be updated in the near future.

The liability insurance for the club will be increased from $1 to 5 million. This is the first increase in about ten years. It will get us on par with other similar non-profits organizations.

I would like to thanks our volunteers for their dedication and time spent to make LOC truly special for all of us. I urge everyone to continue our tradition of being caring and supportive, and especially help new members get started.

I look forward to seeing you at our upcoming events

Winston Ramharry

Cycling News - Jim Corkery and John Damoiseaux, co-chairs

A well attended kick off meeting for the season was recently held at the Ups and Downs; information from the meeting can be be viewed here   Cycling Update Spring 2025

Noteworthy information is that we now have four riding groups instead of three. We have many eager riders and if we get more leaders we will be able to have rides seven days a week.

For now check the events listings for ride opportunities to the end of May; and take a minute to review the cycling guidelines:

Hiking News - Mike Elliott and Eileen Jackson, Co-Chairpersons

From time to time you'll see non-LOC events posted on our calendar.  If they're there, they've been recommended by a club member.  For example, Eileen thinks hikers may be interested in El Camino Maitland Trail, so you'll see there's a posting on May 17, when registration opens, and on September 20, when the event starts.  Most events get a simple listing, but sometimes a highly recommended activity will get a little boost.

For the full hiking bulletin, check here   Hiking Update Spring 2025

Please take a few minutes to review our updated hiking guidelines:

Your media chairperson was recently interviewed by Cogeco Your TV Sarnia. Watch at this link   LOC on Your TV Sarnia

Club members recently took part in the Age Friendly Expo at Point Edward Arena. The colourful displays got lots of interest from attendees.  Thanks to the volunteers who took part - we hope to have a bump in membership as happened after the Expo last year.

Membership News

Lambton Outdoor Cub has 238 current members, an increase of six since this time last year.

If you see a new member at an event, please stop and say hello and welcome them to the Club!

There have been problems on the website with the membership program. Some members received renewal notices after they have renewed their membership. If you have renewed your membership and are still getting these notices, please contact membership@lambtonoutdoorclub.org to notify the membership chair as soon as possible. We are working to have this problem resolved.

Our new mentoring program is up and running. Please contact the mentoring team at membership@lambtonoutdoorclub.org if you have any questions about events, the Club or the website. The mentoring team will help you get the most out of your membership.
